Spring and Summer Knit Plans

With the weather warming up, snuggly warm knit and crochet garments can be too hot to knit… all that knitted fabric resting on your lap on a warm day can become uncomfortable quickly!

But the drive to create is ever-present; the need to keep those hands moving, the mind busy (K1, P1 lol) and have that amazing sense of satisfaction when finally finishing a project! And not to mention making your family, friends, and, of course, yourself look fabulous in those carefully handcrafted masterpieces!

Soooooo spring and summer knits are in!

My plans this season (to start with hehe):

Picture of a knitting pattern for a little girl or baby cotton tunic or dress.

To start, I most definitely need to scratch the itch of making my toddler a cute cotton summer dress. I really love the look of Number 13. Lace Tunic or Dress in the Cotton Kids Pattern Book 366.

A ball of Heirloom cotton 4 ply yarn in the colour Violet.

The pattern calls for Heirloom Cotton 4 ply, and although it always difficult to pick a colour, this time around, think I will use a gorgeous Violet colour.

The beauty of knitting for little people is that they are always super quick to knit up and only use a small amount of yarn. For this pattern in my girl’s size, only four balls are needed. For a bit of fun, I may even jazz it up with a crochet or knitted hair accessory.

Fibre of My Being hand dyed yarn Linen Silk Marino Blend in two colours.

For myself on hot summer days, I like to wear tank tops to keep cool. I am yet to try the Fibre of My Being hand dyed Linen Silk Merino Blend yarn as I have not had the time. But am keen to knit something up in the gorgeous 5 ply.

So, I did the usual, and trawled the pages of Ravelry (for a little too long 😉) and found so many wonderful patterns on offer, both paid and free (see my shortlist of patterns to use with this yarn on Ravelry). I settled on a gorgeous tank called Midsommarkrans - sleeveless top by Lene Tøsti; I love the simplicity of this top with its low-key yet lovely neckline detail. Browsing over the pattern I am please to see it is written for 3 body types – fitted, semi-fitted, and straight. I love that it has these options as I gravitate towards looser, less fitted garments. I am still tossing up between which colour to use of the hand dyed Linen Blend yarn; I’ll see how I feel after knitting my little one’s dress.

Hoping future me is super organised… I will post an update of these when they are complete!
