Natural Fibres at Fibre of My Being

Fibre of My Being hand dyed yarn Autumn Litter

Just about every day I busy myself with some sort of fibre craft or another. In particular, I adore working with natural materials and fibres, and want Fibre of My Being to be a reflection of that. There is something about the connection to plants and animals while crafting that is satisfying and grounding, while at the same time, the feel of these types of fibres are a delight to work with! Not to say I do not ever use man-made fibres in my crafts, but if there is a choice to go natural, I tend to choose that option.

Animal welfare and the environment are also something that I like to consider when making choices, as well as the health impacts for my family. Including introducing fewer micro plastics that can be shed from clothing into our home whenever possible. And using wool where the animals are treated humanely, (for example, non-mulesing wool), as much as possible, as well as favouring the use of Australian wool. Recycled fibres are something I am also interested in, as well as using scraps and offcuts from previous projects.

Searching for these types of fibres and related tools for my own crafting adventures, I have sometimes had great difficulty, especially finding everything that I need for a project in one place. And so out of this difficulty came the idea to start Fibre of My Being.

What are your thoughts on the use of natural vs man-made fibres? What are your favourite type of fibres to use? Is there a type of fibre that you would like to see at Fibre of My Being that we don’t currently stock?

As our little business grows, we hope to incorporate more natural fibres and natural fibre crafting options to our customers.
